About Tommy

Welcome to Tommy Thai, a beloved restaurant in the Bay Area known for its amazing food and generous portions. Our owner, Tommy, is originally from Cambodia and was a refugee in Thailand during the war before finding a new home in the United States. His journey has deeply influenced our restaurant's mission and the authenticity of our dishes.

Tommy Thai Family ❤️

Tommy Thai is celebrated for its generous family-style meals, offering authentic and high-quality dishes. Despite being open for over a decade, we still hand-wrap our popular fried spring rolls and freshly prepare items like our peanut sauce, Thai Iced Tea, green sauce, chili oil, and much more in-house. Tommy loves experimenting with unique takes on Thai and Cambodian cuisine, adding innovative items like "Tea Leaf Salad (Tommy’s style)" and the popular Parmesan Garlic Noodle made with delicious Korean noodles.

Our family is deeply involved in the restaurant. Tommy and Mary (wife and mom), both of whom did not have the opportunity for formal education, have used the success of Tommy Thai to support their children in becoming first-generation college students. Tommy's three children—Tommy Jr., Timmy, and Tiffany—have grown up helping out and sharing in our passion. Tiffany and Timmy both attended UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business. The restaurant has played a significant role in their educational journeys and fostered their love for business.

Their parents' perseverance, especially given the challenges they faced during the war, has been a major source of inspiration for them.

Tommy, now approaching 70, remains ambitious and passionate about creating new and exciting dishes. He often says, "I want the challenge. I am still not 'successful' in my eyes; I want to make more and do more."
